SAM Racing to campaign with 2 World Champions in the 2009 WesBank Super Series
SAM Racing has announced that it will contest the 2009 Bridgestone Production Car Championship with two ex-Sasol Nissan 350Zs under the banner of the Nissan Dealer Team. The cars will be driven by Leeroy Poulter, the 2006 national production car champion, who came second in last year's class A championship in a factory Sasol Nissan 350Z, and Marco da Cunha, who led the Nissan Dealer Team's campaign in 2008.
"We are very excited to have Leeroy join Marco and the team for the new season. He brings with him a wealth of driving experience as well as an intimate knowledge of setting up the Nissan 350Z," said Lee Philips, team principal of SAM Racing.
"We are also very honoured to be the official representatives of Nissan in circuit racing in 2009, following the factory team's withdrawal from the competition at the end of last year. In addition to purchasing the two Sasol Nissan 350Zs, we have also acquired all their technology, spares and parts and we have been assured of Nissan Motorsport's technical support when we need it. We have always done our best to deliver maximum performance on the race track in our privateer Nissans and we will be equally dedicated to flying the Nissan flag high in this the company's 50th anniversary year of its debut in South African motor sport in 1959," added Philips.
SAM Racing will also run two cars in the inaugural Formula Volkswagen National Championship in 2009 after supporting the FVW Challenge in 2008. The driver line-up is to be the same as in 2008, namely Paulo da Cunha and Wesleigh Orr. "Our permanent staffing has been increased to accommodate the anticipated demands of campaigning for the prestigious SA Drivers' Championship, a title that will go to the winner of the FVW Championship," said Philips. "In addition, the team will support a third driver in 2009, details of which will be announced at a later stage."
SAM Racing acknowledges and thanks its sponsors for their continued support: Tubular Technical Construction, Exa Motor Group, Ferodo, GP Windscreens, Global Consulting Solutions, Exa Platinum Rentals, Imperial Chauffeur Drive and Signs For You.
